PRIZES PRESENTED.

WELLINGTON REGIMENT E .COLOURFUL CEREMONY A colourful ceremony was performed I last evening at the Garrison Hall, I when members of the Ist Battalion of I the Wellington Regiment were pre- p sented by their CO. at a full-parade of m the unit, with long-service medals, ' skill-at-arms badges, and trophies earned during the past year. The Military a Band of the regiment, resplendent in scarlet full dress uniforms, and the pipers and drummers, in tartan kilts and white spats, provided colour and music. The khaki-clad ranks of troops, xelieved occasionally by the red sashes worn by the sergeants, carried out smart drill. Prior to presenting the prizes, Major E. M. Stace, E.D. (recently appointed Commanding Officer of the battalion), in a short speech, said that it was the first occasion since his appointment that he had1 had the opportunity to inspect the battalion as a whole, and he had been favourably impressed by the numbers and turnout of those on parade. He referred briefly to the splendid traditions of the regiment, which had been built up, and would be maintained, on the basis of loyalty and efficiency. He also stressed the need for a» constant, all-embracing smartness. In welcoming the public, of which j some 200 were present as guests, Major Stace "invited any young man present to enlist in the Wellington Regiment." At the conclusion of the address the parade formed a hollow square, and the names of the prize-winners were announced by the adjutant, Captain L. W. Andrew, V.C., each soldier coming forward smartly and saluting with precision before and after receiving his reward.
