FAIR TO CLOUDY

JVIILDER TEMPERATURES

Special forecast for Wellington:—

Moderate but freshening northerly to north-westerly winds.

Weather fair to cloudy and mild.

The general forecast for the Dominion as'a whole, issued at noon today, is for southerly winds at first in the north-eastern part of the North Island, but winds otherwise will be north-easterly to northerly in direction. Winds will' be light to moderate generally, but about Cook Strait and Foveaux Strait will freshen somewhat, and in the southern portion of the South Island there will be a change to south-westerlies. The weather will be fair to fine at first, but scattered rain will gradually develop in Western districts from Taranaki southward and in the southern portion of the South Island. Temperatures will be mild.

The anticyclorie which has been moving across the Dominion "was centred this morning to the east of the North Island, while a series of very shallow depressions is crossing the TasVnan Sea.. One of these passed in the south last night, but it had little effect beyond bringing an increase in cloud in the western and southern districts of the South Island. A few isolated showers fell yesterday, chiefly in the far northern and north-eastern parts of the .North Island. The weather this morning was fine generally, Okuru, in Westland, being the only station to report rain at 9 a.m. Winds have remained mostly light to moderate in force. Southerlies predominated yesterday, but by this morning there was a tendency for northerlies in most parts of the country.

Auckland had some light showers early yesterday morning, but the remainder of the day was fair, although rather cloudy, with a light southerly wind. It was fair and misty at 9 a.m. today.

It was cloudy at times in Wellington yesterday morning, but most of the day was fine and 7.1 hours of bright sunshine were recorded. A cold southeasterly breeze, however, prevailed, and when this died away to a calm during the night a frost of six degrees was recorded at Kelburn. The fact that early this morning a northerly breeze sprang up probably prevented a harder frost.

In Christchurch it was fine and sunny with a keen easterly breeze. A frost of seven degrees was recorded there last night. At 9 a.m. today it was cloudy and hazy with a breeze from the east-north-east. Dunedin also had a fine day, with continuous sunshine, the wind being a breeze from the north-east. It was cloudy there this morning, with a light I northerly wind.
