MRS. MOLLISON'S ERROR

LONDON, July 10. Mrs. Amy Mollison was among the last to reach Hatfield Aerodrome, and lost valuable time by mistaking the finishing line on the Bristol section. Several minor crashes and mishaps occcurred, causing withdrawals. Captain Percival completed the circuit of 'the course of 1224 miles in 7 hours 27 minutes.

This year's contest for the King's Cup will differ from those of previous years. The contest takes the form of elimination in a race over two cricuits of a course of 612 miles, making 1224 miles in all. Starting from Hatfield Aefodrome the course will be:

.Norwich (Household Aerodrome), turning point • . 91 Nottingham (Tollerton ■ Aerodrome), turning point 103 Bristol .(Whltchurch Aerodrome), control 121 High Post Aerodrome, turning point 40 Shnreham (Municipal Aerodrome), control 69 ' Coventry (Anstey Aerodrome), . turning point: ;.. j2O Hatfield (control at the end of the first " circuit) ;. 68 Competing aircraft will be divided into three classes: ■ (a) Aircraft the total.engine power of which does not- exceed' 150 b.h.p. at the maximum permissible revolutions per minute of the engine (s). (b) Aircraft exceeding this power. (c) Multi-engined aircraft with no restriction as to engine power. Multi-engined aircraft have'not been confined to class C, and might be entered in either class A or class B according to their horse-power. Fifty per cent, of the starters in each of the three groups pass into the' final, which will be flown over a number of laps of not less than 50 miles of a course to be announced, the total distance not to exceed 350 miles. The qualifying aircraft race on' estimated performance handicaps, issued prior to the start of the first day's race. There will be no adjustment of handicap allowances between the eliminating contest and the final. The winner of the final will be the machine which completes the course and crosses ; the finishing line first in accordance with the rules.

The prizes, which will be presented by Viscount Wakefield, are: First, £500; second, £200; third, £100. A prize of j£so goes to the competitor in. each class who accomplishes the fastest time in the eliminating contest.

The winner of the first heat this year was also the victor in the opening heat last year, but was placed sixth in the final. He has used the same machine.
