HIGHER PRICES
BUTTER AND CHEESE
The market for New Zealand butter in London is firm after a rise of 6s to 7s a cwt in the wholesale price, according to the weekly cabled report received by the Dairy Board today. The cheese market is slightly steadier, with prices up Is to Is 6d a cwt.
Wholesale quotations for butter are: New Zealand, salted, 113s to 114s a c™f .(which equals approximately 13.470 d a lb f.o.bj, compared with 106s to 108s last week and 88s to 90s a year ago; unsalted, 114s; Australian, 112s to 113s; Danish, spot, 1245. Retail prices remain unchanged, with New Zealand butter selling at Is 1« a lb and Danish at Is 2d.
The Imperial Economic Committee estimates the stocks of all butters in store at 885,472 boxes, compared with 1,233,459 boxes at the corresponding period last year. Cheese quotations are:—New Zealand, white and coloured, 60s to 61s a cwt (which equals approximately 6.73 d a lb, f.0.b.), compared. with 58s to's9s last week and 44s to 45s a year ago; Canadian, white, 68s to 70s; coloured, 665; English factory cheese, 54s to 575.
