FOUND LYING OX liOAD HIT-AND-RUN THEORY (By Telegraph.—Press Association.! NEW PLYMOUTH, June 11. One man was killed and another seriously injured at Oakura tonight. They were found lying on the road near their damaged motor-cycle in circumstances that suggested they had been struck by a car. The dead man was Leonard Blanch- ' ard, a farm hand, aged 26, employed in the district. Thomas Jury, also a young farm hand, aged 24, was admitted to hospital with injuries to his legs and | chest. He is in a serious condition. The police are investigating, but| have not yet traced the other vehicle involved in the collision. POLICE INQUIRIES (By Telegraph) (Special to the "Evening Post.") NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. Jury and Blanchard left the Patua dairy factory at 6 o'clock to visit a friend. About 6.45 a party of farmers, who were motoring to New Plymouth, came upon the wrecked motor-cycle in a ditch with the two men lying in a pool of blood on the road. In addition to his injuries, Jury was suffering from shock, and was unable to give a coherent account of the accident. A party of police immediately inspected the scene of the crash and made searching inquiries. One party of motorists were brought to New Plymouth for interrogation, but were later allowed to go home. STRUCK~BY TRUCK WOMAN SERIOUSLY HURT (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 11. Mrs. Davis, aged 68, of Hornby, is in Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition suffering from severe head injuries after being struck by a motortruck on the Main South Road at Hornby at 7.20 o'clock this evening. Mrs. Davis was walking on the road arm-in-arm with another woman when a. motor-truck, driven by Albert Hopkins, of Tinwald, overlook hor and struck her from behind. She was thrown dear, but fell heavily.
