SYDNEY CELEBRATIONS ' One o£ New Zealand's delegates to the Bishop Broughton centenary celebrations in Sydney, Dr. J- R-. Elder, Professor of History at the University of Otago, returned today by the Maunganui. ' Bishop Broughton, said Di. Elder, was the first Anglican bishop in Australia. The celebrations were most impressive. Services were held everj day in the Sydney Cathedral, including 1 a great Empire service. A church con gress was conducted at the same time ! The celebrations resulted in inereasec ! interest being taken not only in the : Englican Church but in other denomi nations also. They showed the greai value of the Church in the building ui of national life. Among others who attended the cen tenary wero Archbishop Averill, Pri mate of New Zealand Bishop Hilliard ' of Nelson, the Bishop of Jerusalem, thi ' Metropolitan of India, the Bishop o ' Lahore, the Bishop of Tokio, and thi •' Archbishop of Armagh, Primate o a Ireland. ___________
