The annual meeting of the federated societies for the Prevention .of Cruelty to Animals was held in Wellington this week. Colonel G. Mitchell, Dominion president, presided over an attendance of delegates representing thirteen. societies.
The principal business of; the conference was the consideration of a number of legislative measures.which the society is anxious to place before Parliament.' It is hoped to . secure special prevention of cruelty to animals Acts .similar, to the Acts in: force-in England, and efforts are also, to be made to secure the passing of a special Protection of Birds Act, a Dogs Registration1 Act,' arid' ah Animals' Anaesthetics. The election.of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, 'the Rev. Clyde Carr, M.P. (Timaru);'executive committee; Mr. John H. Howell, Wellington (chairman).; the Rev. Mr. Tye, Wanganui; Mr. F. J. Marfell, Hamilton; Colonel G. Mitchell, Wellington; Mr. A. F. Wimsett, Palmerston North; and Mr. J. R. Salt, Wellington.
