State on Boxing Day,
Stage, screen, and air were combed for furimakers, singers, actors, and musicians' in recruiting the cast of the new Twentieth Century musical show, "Thanks a' Million," which is to open at the State Theatre on Boxing Day. With Dick Powell and Ann Dvorak topping the cast An romantic and singing roles, "Thanfls a Million" presents Fred Allen, Paul Whiteman, and his band with Rotnona, Rubinoff, Patsy Kelly, and the Yacht Club Boys,- all participating in a jamboree 6t fun. Nunnally Johnson wrote the screen story of "Thanks a Million," a ludicrous account of the fantastic adventures of a show troupe that is being herded 'through the one night stops by that presiding genius, Fred Allen. The principal story interest is attached to the romance between Powell and Miss Dvorak, and is heightened by the appearance of lovely Margaret Irving as the other woman. But Fred Allen and Patsy Kelly manage to get most of the laughs with their v antics. "Thanks a Million" and "I've Got a Pocket Full of Sunshine" are the principal tunes sung by Dick Powell. They are largely from the pens of Gus Kahn and Arthur Johnston, who also composed "Sugar Plum" for Ann Dvorak and Patsy Kelly. The songs allotted to Powell give him ample scope to prove his ability as a croorTer.
Featured in the chief supporting roles of the picture, which was personally produced by Darryl F. .Zanuck arc Raymond Walburn. Alan Dinehart and Benny Baker—who suffers as Fred Allen's stooge.
