GARIBALDI CLUB
Yesterday afternoon the Garibaldi Club entertained eighty children and their parents at a most enjoyable Christmas banquet in their club room, Wakefield Street.
Decorations were carried out on a most extensive scale in the Italian national colours (red, white, and green), with the greeting "Salute prosperita." The tables were tastefully decorated' with masses of gladioli and carnations in shades of pink and red, and a huge Christmas tree in
'charge of Father Christmas, dressed in '{he original Garibaldi costume, stood in the centre of the room, laden with presents for. the children. • '•■'*
. The children were entertained with various items • performed by the following:—Misses Marie Cataldo (recitation), Yvonne Algar (operatic and tap dances), ■ Katie Barnao (character sketch recitation), Judy Cooper (humorous dances), Peggy Smith (tap dance and sailor's hornpipe), and Master' Alexander Grant (Russian Cossack dance). The. accompanist was Miss iHazel Martin. The children also enjoyedl community singing to the strains of an accordion.
The ladies' committee, under the capable, direction of- Mrs. J. Paino, comprised Mesdames Algar, Meru, Rose, Williams, and the Misses Sarich, Smith, and E. Paino. Other grownups present were Mr. Carraro (actingItalian consul) and Mrs. Carraro, Mr. J. Paino (club president) and Mrs. Paino, Mr. Basso (club secretary), and all the members of the Garibaldi Club committee.
A large pink and white Christmas cake was cut; and enjoyed, by the little guests.
