SOME RECENT MEETINGS

Montgomery; ™arl h?.' Sis.F. Leaman; Elector, Sis! M. Arbuthnott. Bro. A. Hogg, the installing officer, was assisted by Sisters M. Wilson, E. Benriie, and Mm., Reid. During the service solos were sung by Sisters Jessie McWhinnie and A. Taylor. After the service Sis. M. Wilson, retiring matron, was invested with badge and jewel of office, and was presented with a handbag from members in appreciation of her services. Bro. A. Hogg was similarly invested and presented with a barometer. Sis. Shearer and Bro. Burnett, newly installed into office, received the congratulations and good wishes of members: Sis. Wallace, W.M. of Petone Chapter, was presented , with a bouquet,, and later members were entertained by past matrons and patrons. The above chapter also held a Christmas party earlier in the month, at which T there was a good attendance. Mr. Leo. Perkins opened the programme with card and sleight-of-hand tricks, and songs were given, by Sis A. Taylor, Mrs. S. Tucker, and Sis. N. McKay. Sis. A. Tayloj was presented with a salad bowl to mark her approaching marriage. The second part of the programme opened with "The Grand Old Duke of York," and oldtime dancing and a "parcel game" gave much enjoyment. Bro. J. K. Burnett was master of ceremonies. The singing of "Auld Lang Syne" ended the evening. i MANCHESTER UNITY, ODDFELLOWS. Loyal Wellington Past Grands' Lodge.—The last meeting was held under the auspices' of Loyal Petone Lodge at. Moera. The elective secrecy s degree was .conferred on Bros. Gledhill, Heron, Hewer, Holmes, and Lawson, and the' - vice-grahd's degree on Bros. Hewer, Gledhill, Steffansen Lawton, Davis* and Sis.•Williams:. The noble grand's degree was Conferred on Bros. Steffansen, Davis,- and Sis. Williams. The district grand master presented the Reg. : Bell Merit Jewel to 3ro. Steffansen (Petone Lodge). District officers conferred the Purple Degree on Bros. Wickens, Davis, A. E. Hewer, A. J. Andrews, S. Reynard, and Sisters Copeland and Williams. The D.G.M. presented the new past grands with certificates and thanked them for services rendered., The. D.G.M. advised that Bro. Rippon's resignation as deputy, grand master for the district had been accepted.and the management committee had elected Bro. Stewart in his'place'. Bro. Cropp installed the deputy and the new member of the committee.

Loyal Heart -of - Oak Lodge.—There was a large attendance, some twenty members also being present from-Mas-terton .Lodge. The principal business was the election and installation of the following officers:—Noble Grand, Bro. 'C. E. White; Vice-Grand, Sister M. E. [Eagle; 1.P.N.G., Bro. G. S. Bruce; guardian, Bro. W. Adair; warden, Bro. D. McPhersoh; elective secretary Bro H. H. L. Meyrick; R.S.N.G., Bro. W. McPherson; L.S.N.G., Bro. P. T. ,Gobding; R.S.V.G., Sister •„'"K. Mitchell; L.S.V.G.. Bro. A. R. Steffert. ' The officers were installed by the District Deputy Grand Master, Bro. A. Rippon, assisted by P.D.G.M. Bro. P. M. Smith and Bros. H. P. Smith and L. Emery The D.G.M., on behalf of the lodge, presented a framed lodge diploma to the retiring I:P.N.G., Bro. Frank S. Wilkins. The season's greetings were forwarded to the : Grand Master , and his officers and to the lodges of the Wairarapa. -One', candidate was initiated ; and two proposals for membership were received. Loyal Newtown Lodge.—A children's Christmas party was held recently, Bro. Bell being in charge, as-

sisted by Sister Reynard, with Bro. Payne-as steward. Piano and banjomandolin solos and songs and recitations were given by several guests. A gaily decorated Christmas tree was the centre of attraction until Father Chrisimas arrived. Gifts were distributed to each child and also sweets, soft drinks, and cakes. . The party concluded by the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." At the conclusion of the party the officers took their chairs and the regular meeting was held. Correspondence included the judges' report on the recent -ritual contest, and disclosed that. Rose of the Valley Lodge had won the shield and Bro. Steffansen (Petone Lodge) the Reg. Bell Merit Jewel for the best Noble Grand. A motion of thanks to helpers at the children's party was carried by acclamation. Loyal Rose of the Valley Lodge.— Bro. E. S. Hewer presided over a fair attendance. One new member was initiated. The D.G.M., Bro. K. Cropp, accompanied by district officers, installed the following officers for the ensuing term: —Noble Grand, Bro. H. Hewer; Vice-Grand, Bro, L. Holmes; elective secretary, Sister E. Stevenson; warden. Sister T. Bentley; guardian, Bro. C. Smith; conductors, Bro. W. England and Sister N. Reynolds; immediate Past Noble Grand, Bro. E. S. Hewer; lecture master, Bro. A. E. Hewer.' Lodge honours were accorded the district officers, Bro. Cropp replying. Bro. Seddon reported on Rose of the Valley Auxiliary Juvenile Lodge and advised that a Christmas: party was being held.ORDER OF DRUIDS. Poiieke Lodge.—A.D. Bro. Nicholson presided over an exceptionally large attendance. After initiating two new members and making provision for the payment of sick pay, all formal business was expedited to enable the lodge to entertain visiting brethren. For many years it has been the practice of the lodge to hold a Christmas function, and the high standard set in past years was fully maintained on this'occasion. The lodge was favoured by a large attendance of visitors, among those present being P.G.P.,' Bro. the Hon." W. Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, V.G.P. Bro. Williams, G.S. Bro. Laughton, D. P. Bro. Seagar. R.A.D. Bro. Boulter, and -officers and representative members of Maungaroa, Pride of Moera, Star of New Zealand, Pride of Brooklyn, and Pacific Lodges. A feature of the evening was the arrival of Father Christmas, fully enrobed in the historic costume of his office, supported by his entourage bearing a huge Christmas pudding. Several toasts were proposed and replied to, and a varied programme was given by Bros. Brazier, Edwards, Cloat, Hearn, Smith, and King. Opportunity was taken •to present the "Gough" Shield to Poneke. Lodge, winners of the recent ritual competition. The presentation was made by Bro. Boulter, who congratulated the lodge on its win. A.D. Bro. Nicholson accepted the shield on behalf of the lodge, y Bro. Laughton presented Bro. Alexander (Pride of Moera Lodge) with a P.A. collar and diploma. -, A presentation was also made to Bro. King, who was the recipient of a wallet and'framed photograph of lodge officers, presented to him in appreciation of his many years' service to the lodge. The singing of "Auld Lang Syne" terminated a Very pleasant function.
