THE SILVER PROBLEM.

City business men, in commenting on the American reports that the United States Treasury proposes to call a conference with the object,of inducing Mexico, China, and other silver-using countries to retain silver reserves, are sceptical whether much good would result to the market. They rather incline to the belief that the price will fall to; 17d' or 18d per oz before it touches bottom. •"j * r ■ - :
