AIR SERVICE FARES

BLENHEIM TO WELLINGTON

REDUCTION OF 10/-

I Objections to Cook Strait Airways making a charge of £1 15s for the trip between Blenheim and Wellington were voiced at the meeting of the Transport Co-ordination Board in Wellington on Friday last, and at the time the chairman of the board (Sir Stephen Allen) said that the board did not approve of this particular fare in the table of proposed fares submitted by the company. Sir Stephen indicated that the board intended reducing the fare, but he did not indicate by what amount. The board's decision was made available this afternoon, the fare for the Blenheim-Wellipgton trip.having been reduced to £ 1 ss.

With this exception the table of fares submitted by Cook Strait Airways to the board has been approved. A new time-table for the approval of the board is to be submitted not later than tomorrow at Rotorua. The scale of fares and the time-table for this service are to operate only until the first meeting of the board in February next, when the whole question is to be reopened de noyo. This interim decision is not to prejudice any party to the proceedings at the further''hearing.

The amended time-table submitted by Union Airways for the service between Dunedin and Palmerston North, providing for the departure of a machine from Dunedin at 11.30 a.m. instead of at 8.15 a.m. as suggested by the company has been approved, as also have the fares as submitted. This decision likewise is to take effect only until the first meeting of the board in, February next and is without prejudice to the right of any party concerned to make any representation to vary either the fares or time-table.

The amendment in this time-table is as follows: —Depart Dunedin 11.30 a.m.; arrive Christchurch 1.2 p.m.; depart Christchurch 1.12 p.m.; arrive Blenheim 2.30 p.m.; depart Blenheim 2.40 p.m.; arrive Palmerston North 3.37 p.m. The foregoing involves a consequential amendment to the time-table of Cook Strait Airways, which the board has asked Cook Strait Airways to submit to it at Rotorua tomorrow.
