EASTERN LYALL BAY

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—When it was first suggested that it might be necessary to fill in the foreshore at the eastern end of Lyall Bay to provide for an extended runway for the aeroplanes, a protest was made against the destruction of the beautiful little bay at the eastern end—not only the safest part of the whole bay, but a much-sought-after picnic spot. Subsequently it was stated that it was not intended to interfere with the beach.

In your Wednesday's issue you published a plan and explanation of a proposed reclamation scheme of nearly 12 acres and a subsequent further 24J acres, either of which will completely wipe out the little bay in question. In other cities these bathing beaches are jealously guarded. In view of the large population in the future in Miramar district, and this is the nearest safe bathirig beach for them, I am wondering where the councillors stand on. this question.—l am, etc.,

POSTERITY'S FUTURE.
