GARDEN PARTY

(From "The Post's" Representative.)

A garden party was held recently at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. F. J.1 Jones, Waterloo Road, Lower Hutt,1 when they' entertained the members of the Wellington Shakespeare Society, of which Mr. Jones is president. Gloriour weather enhanced the beauty of the.garden, where a wealth of flowers and shrubs were at their best, and the wide expanse of lawns gave full opportunity for the playing of various outdoor games, enjoyed by all. Music and photographing of various groups of the members added to the fun, and the whole made a pleasant ending to the year's activities. Among those present were Mr. and MrsT Armour, Mrs. Davidson, Mr. and Mrs. Edie, Mr. and Mrs. Shaw, Mr. and Mrs. Ross, Mrs. Martyn-Williams, Misses Atkinson, Armour (2), Davidson (2), Edie, Gilpen, Hind, Howard, Shaw, Waters, Williams; Dr. Norman Jones, and Messrs. Bland, Nicoll, McGhie, and Simpson.

"Gift Afternoon."

The annual "gift afternoon" held at the Anglican Boys' Home', Lower Hutt. took place on Saturday in ideal weather. There w* a wonderful response front supporters of the home, with generous donations of gifts, while the stalls did excellently with their various wares. During the afternoon Archdeacon Hansell unveiled and dedicated a bed in memory of the late Mr. Vivian Riddiford, who had always beea a staunch supporter of the home. Mrs. V. Riddiford, Archdeacon and Mrs. Hansell, Mr. and Mrs. J. Vogel, the president (Mr. J. W. Henderson), tha secretary (Mr. A. S. Kempthorne), master and matron of the home (Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Dunne) were present,-also many friends of the home from town and suburbs.

The ceremony of opening the party was performed by Canon' James.

The stallholders were as follows:— Cakes, Mrs. Strombom and Mrs. Bolt; fancy, Mrs. Gower and Miss Humphries; sweets, Mrs. Miles, Mrs. Parsons, and Mrs. Clark; produce, Mrs. Fuge, Mrs. McArthur, and Mrs. Holcombe; tea, Mrs. Tosswill, Mrs. Lees, and Mrs. Smith.

Mrs. Hoggard's Boy Scout Cubs gave a fine display of simulating "Robin Hood and His Merry' Men."

Bees are said to live longer in the winter than in the* summer because they do not have to work so hard then.
