NEW ZEALAND INSTITUTE

--The vmonthly, meeting of the New Zealand Institute of.-- Horticulture (Inc.) was held recently, when there .were present Dr. W. R. B. Oliver (chair), Captain- Sanderson, Messrs. Pope, Waiigh, Dallas, Hyde, and the secretary, Mr. G. S. Nicoll. Apologies were. received from Mrs. Knox Gilmer and > Messrs. Campbell and Brash.

The examining board of the institute recommended that a gold medal be presented annually to the best student, |in the opinion of the board, in the diploma examination, but that no award be made if it is considered that there is no: candidate; of sufficient merit. The recommendation was adopte.d as a memorial to the late Dr. Cockayne.. ;:" . .■■
