SPRING WEATHER
Special forecast for Wellington:— Freshening north-westerly winds. Weather fine, but clouding over at times. Moderate temperatures.
The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today, is for moderate ' southerly winds to the north of New Plymouth and Napier, these later becoming variable. Elsewhere moderate and freshening westerly to north-westerly winds may be expected, gale force being reached at times about Foveaux Strait. A continuance of fine weather may be expected in most districts, but it will become cloudy in the west coast and far southern districts of the South Island and showers are likely to develop there.
New Zealand is at present covered by a fairly intense anticyclone, the central portion of which extends from the northern part of the Tasman Sea on to the North Island. A slight depression, however, is crossing the southern part of the Tasman Sea. Except for '.a few isolated showers/yesterday's weather was fair to fine, and this morning, .it was fine almost generally. Moderate to strong southwesterly to southerly winds have prevailed, but since last night these have decreased in force and this morning there, was a tendency for hortherlies in and south of Cook Strait
A strong south-westerly wind prevailed in Auckland yesterday and there were occasional showers during the morning, although the afternoon was fair and mostly sunny. The weather there this morning was still fair with a south-westerly breeze. ;
Although rather cloudy, the-wea-ther in Wellington has otherwise been fair with a cool southerly breeze. It was calm between 3 ajn. and 7.45 a.m. today, after which a light northerly set in. • . ■
Christchurch had a dull morning yesterday with a fresh south-westerly wind.. The afternoon, however, was fine and sunny, the wind then changing to a light easterly. It was fair at 9 a.m. today with an easterly breeze. .
Dunedin's weather has been fine and sunny. A fresh south-westerly wind blew. there yesterday morning, but it was only light in force during the afternoon. The weather this morning was cloudy with a light northerly wind.
