BREEDERS' PLATE WINNER
Gold Rod, winner of the A.J.C. Breeders' Plate on Monday, adds to the number of Dominion-bred victors of this valuable two-year-old race, but though a New Zealander by birttt he is now. owned in Australia by Mr. E. J. Watt! also formerly of the Dominion. Mr. Watt had won the event previously, before it was restricted to colts only, with Ventura in 1911 and Del- Monte in 1914. two fillies whom he acquired in Australia and afterwards brought over to the Dominion, -Ventura winning the C.J.C. Great Easter and the A.R.C. Easter Handicap here in successive years.
-Gold Rod was one of the yearlings sent up by Mr. T. H. Lowry to the last January sales, and he was bought by Mr. Watt for 350gs. He was left at Trehtham to be;broken in and put through his early -preparation by H. jTelfbrd-. who serit'him over to Sydneywith the other youngsters left behind last May. .
