CALL TO MODERATOR
The Moderator of the Wellington Presbytery, the Rev. F. H. Wilkinson, at the meeting of the Presbytery last night intimated his acceptance of a call to Timaru. He will be leaving Wellington after the meeting of the General Assembly about mid-Novem-ber.
The call was considered by the meeting It was stated that 359 out of 390 members of the church had signed the call, the small discrepancy being accounted for by the fact that those members not signing were ill or absent from Timaru. The call was therefore unanimous.
Members of Presbytery spoke in appreciative terms of Mr. Wilkinson's distinguished services as a minister and a public man. It was decided to conduct the induction of the Rev. C. G. Wilcox, of Opoho, Dunedin, to the charge of Eastbourne on October 24.
The Rev. S. J. Campbell, of the Newtown Congregational Church, applied for admission as a minister of the Presbyterian Church. The application was referred to a sub-committee.
Mr. Robert C. Lamb, who has completed his course of training for the ministry, applied to the Presbytery to be taken on trial for licence. It was decided that he be examined at the December meeting. It was recommended at the wish of the Karori congregation, that the Rev. L. H. Hunt's term as minister there should be extended for a further two years.
Statistics for the year showed 14,000 persons under pastoral care in the Wellington district, and an average church attendance of about 5000. The total membership of the church is 4853, and 240 new members have enrolled during the year. "
It was reported that Mr. K. Evans, a second-year theological student, would supply in the Plimmerton district during the summer.
A report was presented on the Presbyterial ' visitation to the Kelburn Church. The report commented on the devotion of the people to the work of the church, and to the unflagging work of the Rev. J. S. Murray. Every encouragement was given to the work among the young people, and the missionary, spirit of the church was very fine. There had been steady progress in the charge ever since its formation, and it was to be congratulated particularly on the recent additions and alterations to the buildings and the installation of a pipe organ.
