PLENTY OF RAIN
AFTER DRY SPELL
A few weeks ago there were reports of dry pastures.and bush fires on the West Coast. The countryside was wanting rain badly. It had it at the weekend, heavy rain being experienced over the whole of the West Coast. While the rain was too intermittent to cause '"• flooding, states the' "Grey River Argus,", it was the means of blocking two of the main highways. The Buller Gorge was closed to traffic through a slip on the Westport side of Berlins, and the Otira Gorge Road is - also impassable for traffic. It was expected that the Buller Gorge Road would be open today, but advice had not been received regarding the Otira Gorge.
In Greyraouth on Saturday, heavy rain in the morning gave way to sunshine in. the afternoon, but at night fall rain again set in, drenching showers being experienced, culminating in an electrical storm after 10 o'clock. A similar day was experienced on Sunday, a showery morning being followed by a sunny afternoon; and then further .showers.
