BOWLING

NEW YEAR PAIRS

TOURNAMENT DETAILS

A New Year pairs tournament is to be,, held by the Wellington Bowling Centre on January 1 and 2, according to. a decision made by the executive last night. Entries are to close on December 27, during the Christmas tourney/ and players are to use only three bowls.

Mr. W. S. Gilbert, who presided, was of the opinion that they should give the New Year pairs tournament a trial if they could, and after a little discussion the decision to hold it was made without dissent. Mr. J. A. Kershaw then moved, and it was seconded, that the number of bowls be three for each player, instead of four. By that means, he said, they would get eight rounds of interesting play into two days. A member pointed out that three bowls would be used at the coming Dominion tourney at Christchurch. Mr. Gilbert; opposed the motion, saying that the game of bowls had. been played here for many years with four' bowls as the correct thing. ' The motion was.carried. With the idea of making.the closing time of entries as late as possible to attract more players, Mr. Kershaw moved that the opening date be December 27 and that was decided upon. Other conditions will be as in the past. The following club one-day tournaments were approved of;—Seatoun, October 28; Hutt, October 28; Porirua, October 28; Island Bay, November 14; Petone, November 19; Khandallah, November 21; Seatoun,- November 28; Wellington, November 29; Island Bay, December 12; Eastbourne, December 30; Porirua, January 22; Petone, January 22; .
