SWIMMING

HUTT CLUB'S REPORT

The annual report of the Hutt .Valley Swimming Club states that the past season was mosV successful from a swimming and a financial point of view. The club was in a sound financial position." In the clubroom, the committee was able to pay the balance owing on the floor account, and in addition the flooring of the alcoves and the ladies' dressing-room was undertaken. During the summer the- clubroom was well patronised, but the same could not be said of attendances at social functions during the winter. The ping-pong club had an/ active and successful season. One of - the teams entered in the Hutt. Valley - Association competitions had reached the final of the grade.

A successful carnival was held. Visits were made by members :to Carterton, Masterton, Greytown, and also to the various carnivals held by the Wellington clubs. Invitations extended to members of the various clubs in Wellington to the club's evening meetings were responded to by a number of clubs, and these visits did much to foster esprit de corps among the various, clubs.

Members of the: club who won centre championships, were as follows:— Miss S. Campbell (100 yards ladies' championship); R. Tuppen. (men's diving > championship); 8... Mclnnes (schoolboys.' championship). In addition to these Miss W. Pritchard gained second place in the ladies' championship, A. Somervell second in the 50 yards men's ■ championship, Miss R: Simpson second in the .intermediate girls' championship, and B. Mclnnes second in the 100 yards junior boys' championship. The club gained second place in the Peck Shield harbour race, M. Chevin being the second swimmer to finish the course.

The following were the winners of the various club competitions during the season: Beasley Cup (ladies). Miss W. Pritchard; Beasley Cup (men), A. Somervell; Palmer Cup, Miss W. Pritchard; points prize (ladies), Miss W. Pritchard; points prize (men), H. Wright; breaststroke, R. Meek; diving, R. Liver; schoolboys, J. Oldershaw and X.. Bousfield. (equal).
