WRITERS AND ARTISTS

COMPETITION EVENING

An evening of competitions arranged by Miss Marjorie Willcocks was enjoyed by members .of the Writers' and Artists' Society last evening, when Mrs. J. C. Andersen presided over a large attendance.

Much amusement was derived from completing limericks, four lines of whic'i were given, members reading out their completed verses. Another original competition was a ten minutes' story or sketch written on the subject, "The Rangatira Leaves Wellington for Christchurch." These were read, and were judged by popular vote, prizes being won by Mrs. S. Andrews and Miss Phyllis FitzGerald.. The second test was a descriptive sketch to be written without the use of. adjectives or adjectival phrases. This was won by Miss B. McLean and Miss D. Johnston.

During the evening the formation of a magazine club was discussed,, the names of prospective members being taken.

Votes of thanks were passed to the chairwoman and to Miss Willcocks for the arranging of a very successful evening.

A dainty' supper was served and the proceedings ended with conversation.
