N.Z. RUGBY TEAM
TODAY'S OPPONENTS
(By "Drop-kick.")
.Several- players •of international standing are included in the combined Northumberland-Durham team to oppose the New Zealand touring side in the Rugby match at Newcastle-on-Tyne today. Best known to New * Zealand* ers is J. McD. Hodgson, who was here with the British team in 1930 Hodgson is still a regular member of the Northumberland county team, in which there are other fine forwards.' Apart from his duties with the pack, Hodgson does most of the place-kicking. Another player of the same name also plays for the county; but it is probable that the international is the one included in today's team. . ..
Perhaps the best two forwards in the combined team are A. McLaren' (Duvham), who is one of the leading members of Scotland's pack, and Su'ddes (Northumberland), .who has gained a fine reputation as a hooker.' Anbthe? of- the forwards, Rodham, has' reached the English trials. , •
The counties' full-back, Blench, appeared- in Rugby for the first time last season, and he acquitted himself well for Northumberland A. ,C. Harrison (Hartlepool Rovers), though on the small side, has given great service to Durham as a wing-three-quarter, and ne has played twice for England (once against, the ■ Springboks); Goldson, Durham's clever scrum half, has been given, a trial fora place in England's team.
