DARING THEFT

BOXING MATCH TAKINGS

BOX OFFICE BURGLED

A daring theft that was evidently carried out after careful planning occurred at the Town Hall* last evening, when the takings from the RaynerJarvis professional boxing match, about £50, were stolen from the office of the treasurer, Mr-. B. A. Guise, while the pout was on. A protecting bar across a window at the rear of the box-office had been removed, and after the theft had been discovered this was found in a yard adjoining the office. The attendance at the match was such that there would have been little money left after expenses had been paid, so the Wellington Boxing Association is a heavy, loser.

Ttye money was wrapped in a small canvas bag and left in a brief bag in the locked office. Officials were in the room for most of the evening, and when they left to watch the last rounds of -the main bout the door was locked. The room was entered .by opening the window, and the brief bag was later found burst open on the.back stairs leading up to the Concert Chamber from the yard and the small money bag was missing. The thief evidently escaped by ascending the back stairs to the Concert Chamber, and then walking down the main stairs and out of the building. .

• As the money was in notes and small change, it is expected that detection will be difficult.

The : police are investigating, but there has been no further development today.•
