CRICKET SEASON
OPENING DAY FIXED
FIRST SENIOR DRAW
A possible increase in the number of cricket teams competing-under the Wellington Cricket Association's banner was revealed when the classification of entries was made at a meeting of the association's management committee last night. As had been decided previously i'.ie senior championship competition would be confined to eight teams being added to this season's list, of Institute. Sixty-nine teams for the other grades brought the total entries to seventy-seven, that being the number of teams which took part hi last season's competitions. There was the likelihood, however, of a few more teams being added to this season's list. A decision was made that the season's competitions commence on October 19, a proposal that the start of the championships be' deferred until October 26 to provide for a club day on October 19 being defeated. The chairman of the senior championship committee (Mr. Phillipps) announced that the draw for the first series of matches in the first round of the senior championship had been made as follows:— University v. Kilbirnie, Kilbirnie No. 1. Wellington College Old Boys v. Wellington, Basin Reserve. Midland v. Hutt, at Hutt Recreation Ground. Karori v. Petone, at Petone.
