MANAWATU SEAT
MR. LINKLATER'S ATTITUDE
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
PALMERSTON N.. This Day.
Apparently Mr. J. Linklat^, M.P., has been not a little embarrassed by Mr. J. K. Hornblow's suggestion that their names should go to a ballot to see who should be the National Government candidate for Manawatu at the General Election.
Speaking to his supporters at Rongo-. tea on Saturday night Mr. Linklater said he had approached the Prime Minister and the. Hon. J. G. Coates in an endeavour toAsecure their opinion as to what he should do and his leaders had advised him to do nothing of the kind. "I want to assure you that no other man nor woman has ever hinted at such an unaccustomed and unprecedented procedure," said Mr. Linklater, "and I failed to see why I should do so at the request of a man who wants to fill my position."
Mr. Linklater proceeded to defend his actions in Parliament on behalf of the electors, and said he preferred to be a man who worked rather than one who talked; further, farmers should be represented by a farmer.
