FOUND ON EVEREST

EXPLORER'S BODY & DIARY

STORY OF LONE ATTEMPT

The new Everest Expedition found the body of Mr. Maurice Wilson, of the London Aero Club, who made a lone attempt on Mount Everest in July of last year, according to an unconfirmed report received from Darjeeling. says a London, message dated September 9.

Mr. Wilson was last seen by porters when he left the old Camp 3 of the Ruttledge Expedition, at a height of 21,000 feet.

He flew from Hestbn to India in May, 1934, with the intention of landing somewhere on Everest, and spiking the British flag there. On reaching India, he was warned of the futility of any such attempt and began to fit himself, by exercise and fasting, to conquer Everest on foot. Efforts were made to dissuade him, but he continued in his quest ■ -.-'■•

When he reached Camp 3 of the Ruttledge Expedition, the few porters with him said that they were unable to proceed without assistance, and ropes. Mr. Wilson continued the ascent, taking with him three loaves of bread. It is also reported that Mr. Wilson's diary has been found, and that it is being taken to Darjeeling with the body. . ~
