WEATHER IMPROVES
AFTER SOUTHERLY CHANGE
Special forecast for Wellington:— Fresh Jtnt decreasing: southerly winds. , Weather cloudy at first, but for the most part fair. Cool temperatures, but milder again tomorrow. *
'The general forecast for the Domin--ion as a whole, issued at noon today, is for southerly to south-westerly winds. These will be strong in places in the North Island and on the east coast of the .South .Island, but they will decrease and will otherwise be moderate. Latfer winds will veer to the north-west in the southern ( half, of the South Island. The weather at first will still be changeable with some scattered showers, but it should soon be fair to fine generally. .Temperatures will be cold, with some inland frosts tonight in the South Island. Yesterday's depression passed away eastward- last night, and barometers have since risen with the advance of an anticyclone from the'Tasman Sea. Strong' north-westerly to westerly winds prevailed yesterday and in many places reached gale force. During the night, however, there was a general change to southerlies.' The weather has been squally and changeable with rairi at times in most.':, districts, and with the southerly change. there has been a general fall, in temperatures. The weather was-still, showery this morning in various parts of the country, but winds were less strong and there were indications of an improvement setting in. " ; Auckland has had a continuance of cloudy and showery weather. A moderate. north-westerly wind prevailed yesterday morning, but a south-westerly blew in the afternoon. This was still blowing freshly this morning. Wellington's .weather was rather cloudy and a few light showers fell, but most of the afternoon was sunny. A strong ; and squally north-westerly wind prevailed, but at 9.3Q p.m. this changed to a southerly and rain fell between 10 pjn. and 12.45 a.m. The southerly was fresh to strong during the'night, but had moderated by early this morning. At Kelburn the rainfall totalled 27 points, 48. falling in Lower Hutt. . Christchurch had fair and warm weather ;with a north-westerly breeze until 3.15 p.m. The wind then changed to a : . strong south-westerly and some showers fell/during the, evening. At 9 a.m. today, a 'fresh south-westerly was still blowing, the weather being changeagle and. somewhat squally.
Duhediri has" had fair weather with passing cloud; the wind then being a strong south-westerly.
