MURIEL BRUNSKILL

"Madame Muriel Brunskill, the great English contralto}; who will give her first Wellington-;. concert tomorrow night at the Town Hall in the presence of their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Galway, comes here with the reputation of being not only the most artistic contralto who has visited the Southern Hemisphere for a quarter of a century, but also the most versatile. Her programmes include grand opera arias, a wonderful selection of Lieder, Scottish traditional songs, a big array of English art songs, quaint little numbers of the nursery rhyme order, old-world English songs, and many beautiful French compositions. Perhaps for many music-lovers the most thrilling number will be Schubert's "Erl King," for those who heard Madame Brunskill broadcast this wonderful song a couple of weeks ago were amazed at the wealth of feeling with which this prima donna invested the dramatic number. "Lasciatemi Morire " (Monteverde) and "Che Faro" (from Gluck's "Orfeo") will be the chief operatic offerings. The box plans are at Begg's, and unreserved tickets are also on sale there today.
