BACK FROM ABROAD
. Mrs. A. D.. Crawford was the! guest o£ honour yesterday at a very pleasant afternoon party, at which bridge was played most of the time, when, the-fellow members of her club'welcomed,her back to New Zealand after her- sibsence in the Old Country. Some :. very interesting games. Were'-played; and then afternoon tea \Vas-served in the diningroom, when'-'a 'number of non-players were glad of the opportunity of adding their welcome. The table was charmingly arranged with a large bowl in the centre of yellow crinoline jonquils and delicate foliage, while at each corner- of the table. was a low green glass bowl of mixed blossoms which were particularly effective. Mrs. Crawford was in black satin marocain, and wore a .wide black hat-of fine straw. The lounge was gay with poppies of all tones of orange and lemon, looking most attractive, specially when fugitive gleams of;' sunshine brightened everything. A very pleasant afternoon party was given by -Mrs..,JR. W. Kane at her home in Halswell Stfeet yesterday to
give some of Miss Amy Kane's friends' an' Opportunity of meeting her after her delightful and interesting trip abroad. Mrs. Kane received, wearing a. soft satin frock of pearl grey, with lace.l trimming on. the corsage and sleeves. Miss Kane was .in brown marocain, with striped trimmed vest and matching brown hat, and- Miss Amy Kane was in black crepe with sleeve puffs and corsage bands of Bulgarian embroidery in bright tints. A delicious afternoon tea was served, the central black bowl of bright yellow crinoline jonquils and Ifeesias, all from Mrs. Kane's garden, being much admired. Mrs. Kane was congratulated on being able to grow such,flowers nearly,in the heart of the city, showing that the unkind things said ■ aboiit Wellington weather are largely unjustified. Miss Amy Kane had many questions to answer about her travels, and the function was a most enjoyable one
