WAIWETU CLUB
Despite the wet weather a large number of members were present at the opening of the season of the Waiwetu Tennis Club on Saturday. Mr. Walter Nash, M.P., who was accompanied by Mrs. Nash, in declaring | the season open, remarked upon the | I fact that even such a wet day could' 'not dampen the spirits of the club members. He had a special interest in the club as he had held the office of patron since the club's inception five years ago. He had watched its progress from the time it had only one court and a few members to the present, when it had five courts, 70 members, a pavilion, and very pleasant surroundings. Mr. Nash said he thought it was an admirable example of what could be accomplished by the co-opera-tion of school committees and tennis clubs. He paid a tribute to the enthusiasm of all concerned in the success that had attended the club's activities.
Mrs. Nash was presented with a bouquet by Mr. F. Stoupe on behalf of the club. As tennis was impossible, members adjourned to the schoolroom and took part in a table tennis tournament. Afternoon tea was served.
