HOCKEY AT OTAKI

WELLINGTON TEAM'S VISIT

(Special to the "Evening Post.")

» OTAKI, This Day. A men's hockey match, Huia (Wellington) versus Otaki, was played on a rough ground at Otaki on Saturday. For a time Otaki predominated, but in the second spell they faded out of the picture and were beaten 7-2. In the evening a dinner was accorded the visitors at the Telegraph Hotel, Mr. Richards presiding. The toast of the visitors was proposed by Mr. H. Nicolson, president of the Horowhenua Hockey Association, who paid a tribute to the Huia Club, and referred to the time when annual matches were played. In those days the ladies also visited Otaki. A tribute was paid to Mrs. Poulter, who at one time was captain of the Huia Ladies' Club. Mr. Len Butcher responded, and with Mr L. McAlister said he hoped that annual matches would be played as in the past, one at Wellington and the other at Otaki. Mr. F. Edwards, president of the Otaki Club, said his side would lfcjk forward to any games arranged. Wellington members paid a tribute to the splendid work done by the Horowhenua Hockey Association, and wished that body continued success. Later the visitors were the guests of Mr D. Richards at the pictures.
