"QUITE SYMPATHETIC"

Reporting to the Wellington Cricket Association's management committee last night, Mr. P. B. Broad (chairman) said that the deputation which waited upon the Reserves Committee had found the committee itself quite sympathetic towards the requests which had been made. The advantages of having an embankment erected on the eastern side of the Basin Reserve had been stressed, as also had the need of a members' stand. Both the city engineer and the assistant engineer had asked the association to put in a sketch plan of what it had in mind. in regard to I the embankment. Mr. Broad intimated that he proposed to have another talk with Mr. Luke, and he thought that it might be well, to procure . from Christchurch a sketch plan of the Lancaster Park banking as a further guide.

The erection of. a member's stand at the Basin Reserve was by no mean's a new proposal, he said. Years ago plans had been drawn up by the City Council Engineer's Department for a two-storeyed building, the ground floor of which would be used by the Engineer's Department and the top floor to accommodate members, provision being made for seating upwards of 600 people. The building, it had been suggested, would be set up in the southeastern section of the Basin, Reserve. What the association would like now was a members' stand to accommodate say, about 400 people. Mr. Broad had suggested to the Reserves Committee that the idea' of an honorary members' stand should be kept in mind. If it was acted upon the. association, no ! doubt, would be prepared to assist the City Council in the^matter of financing : the. building,..•',■, .-; ■ . .
