MAILS BY AUTOGYRO
Within lea years the postal services of all leading United States cities will be speeded up with the help of-auto-gyros landing on post-office roofs, according to the prediction of the Post* master-Generai, Mr. James Farley. He was in Philadelphia to open a model post office, costing £900.000. He saw ai?s autogyro land on the flat roof and■ i» ! ceived from the pilot a special bag of mail. A few minutes later another autogyro took off with letters. This inaugurated a regular service Philadelphia and the airport at Camden, New Jersey, an- important clearing centre for air mail to and from all parts of the country. Mr. Farley indicated that projects are under consideration to provide post toffices•. at New York, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Boston, and St Louis with fiat roofs for. an autogyro "shuttle, service" between .the;city and the. nearest airport.' Ten thousand people waiched the ceremonies. The autogyro landed on a roof measuring less thaii 400 ft by 275 ft. Smoke from wind indicators gave warning of air currents.. The Philadelphia Post Office is the only one in the country accea* sible by. aiivjvater, road, and rail.
