REMITS FOR CONFERENCE

The- Hutt County Council decided at its meeting yesterday to submit the following remits to the conference of the New Zealand Counties' Association to be held in Wellington in August:—(l) "That whilst the apportionment of the hospital and charitable aid levy remains on the' capital rateable values, where rural areas are grouped with urban areas only the farmer's dwelling house and the site thereof shall be taken into account." (2) "That schools in counties (other than State schools) be not exempt from rates."

(3) "That waterworks, public plantations, recreation, and other similar reserves owned by municipal corporations and situated in counties be not exempt from rates." .
