ISSUE OF WRIT
ELECTORS TOTAL 13,750
. The writ for the Lyttelton by-election was issued yesterday. The poll will be taken on Wednesday, July 24, exactly a month after the date of the writ, and nominations for candidates will be accepted up to July 8.
The supplementary roll of electors for Lyttelton closed at 6 p.m. yesterday. The general roil to be used for the poll is the roll of 1931, there having been no new roll prepared. since that date. The supplementary roll contains the names of electors enrolled, since the printing of the last general roll, and it was stated last evening by the Registrar of Electors in Christchurch, Mr. J. J. McGahey, that on the entire roll the total number of electors was now 13,750. On the general roll there has been the usual routine erasure of names of electors not entitled to be there through loss of qualification. The number of electors on the roll' for this by-election represents an increase of only 29 on that used for the last by-election in September, 1933. In that election 10,348 votes were cast.
