GALE PREDICTED
MILD, FAIR l WEATHER
Special forecast for Wellington:— North-westerly gale. Weather main-
ly fair to cloudy and mild.
1 The general forecast Is for southwesterly winds north of Auckland; elsewhere west to north-west predominating, moderate to strong generally, and reaching gale force in many places. Weather fair to fine in eastern districts and unsettled in districts with a westerly aspect, with intermittent rain. Temperaures mild.
A deep westerly depression now covers the Dominion, barometers this morning being extremely low in the far south. Consequently the winds, which were mostly south-westerly yesterday, have veered to westerlies and have become strong nearly everywhere. A few scattered showers occurred yesterday in the far north and south and on the West Coast of the South Island, but -otherwise the weather was fair to fine. Since last night, however, rain has fallen in most districts with a westerly aspect, a few places reporting fairly heavy falls. In Auckland a south-westerly breeze has prevailed and the weather has been cloudy with occasional showers.
Wellington had a fine sunny day yesterday. A light southerly wind prevailed in the morning, but conditions were practically calm during the afternoon. In the night a north-westerly sprang up, and this morning it was freshening.
Christchurch has had fine weather, with a light north-east wind. There were five degrees of frost there last night, but. early this morning conditions became mild.
Bright fine weather has prevailed in Dunedin, with a fresh west to northwest wind.
