AUSTRALIAN NOTES

NEW ZEALANDER BEATEN

Harry Mamos proved too experienced for Fred Atkins, of New Zealand, at the Rushcutter Bay Stadium on May 29 (writes "R. 5.8."). Mamos opened the scoring with an aeroplane spin in the third round. Atkins equalised with a flying tackle and body press in the fifth. In the following round Atkins again brought his flying tackle into action, but Mamos secured a reverse head lock and completed the fall with a body press. This was Atkins's first appearance in Sydney, and he was far from disgraced. He hails from Westport, and is a former pupil of Tom Alley.

Tom Lurich defeated Tex Bolt at the Leichhardt Stadium on May 25. Lurich obtained the first fall in the opening round with a head lock and body press. Bolt evened the score with a body press after a series of flying tackles. In the next round Bolt attempted to repeat his success, but after being floored a couple of times, Lurich sidestepped, and Bolt dived ■headlong through the.ropes. He was unable tip continue, and the decision was awarded to Lurich.

George Pencheff held Tom Lurich to a one-fall draw at the Brisbane Stadium on May 22. The former secured a fall with a short arm scissors in the third term, and Lurich equalised with a hammer lock in the fifth session. Pencheff had his opponent in difficulties with a short arm scissors in the final round, when the bell came to Lurich'^ rescue. Pencheff gave a fast and clever display.

Alex Lundyn and Con Grivas broke even at the Rushcutter Bay Stadium on May 25. No falls were registered.

Johnny Lewis defeated Bill Bayne by two falls to one at the Bohemia Stadium, Brisbane, on May, 25. At the Bronte Stadium on May 28, Luis Pardello was awarded the match over Max Kauffman, when the latter was disqualified.

Eddie Gill and Con Grivas were both incapacitated by a head-on collision at the Carlton Stadium on May 29. The referee's verdict was "no contest."
