THORNDON TENNIS CLUB

ANOTHER GAY DANCE

The dance given by the Thorndon Lawn Tennis Club last year was considered one of the happiest events of the season, and it is certain that the same will be said this year of the one held last night in the Mayfair Cabaret.

It was a most delightful dance; all the arrangements were so well carried out. There was a large attendance of members and their friends, and everyone had the party spirit.

The cabaret looked most attractive. One half of the ballroom was converted into a lounge, furnished with comfortable chairs and little coloured tables. Huge brass bowls of tawny chrysanthemums, bowls and vases of yellow jonquils, iceland poppies, and autumn leaves, beautifully arranged, decorated the lounge and supperrooms. The excellent supper was served in both the Italian room and the bridge room. There were long buffet, tables in one, and in the other were chairs and little tables. Crepe paperi in the club colours, red, orange, and green, was used most effectively as a decoration, making everywhere especially gay and bright. The orchestra, which was splendid, played on a corner dais. Mr. Phillip Cooke, president of the club, and Mrs. Cooke, received the guests. Mrs. Cooke wore a charming' frock of blue and silver matalasse and a shoulder spray of shaded, pink hothouse flowers, presented to. her by the committee. The committee consisted of Mrs. R. E. Pope (who wore white crepe and scarlet frock), Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Bradshaw (the latter wearing floral chiffon trimmed with velvet), Mrs. F. N. Whatley (black and white figured crepe trimmed with scarlet flowers on the shoulder), Miss Molly Macassey (autumn-shaded floral crepe with touches of brown velvet). Miss Monica Malfroy '(floral crepe in shades of brown-aiad yellow),' Dr. Robert Stout, the secretary; Messrs. Ross Gore, Charles Marchbanks, Gilbert Rees. and Norman: Smit!* ' '

There were many very, bright parties given before the dance. A large din-

ner party was arranged at the Royal Oak Hotel, where there were , 120 people present. Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Cooke entertained about sixty club members at their home in Halswell Street.
