FOREIGN MISSIONS

ASSOCIATION FORMED

Dr. J. M. Laird presided over a wellattended gathering of friends and supporters of foreign missions which was? held on Tuesday night in Nimmo's Hall. A constitution was adopted by the meeting and the following officers and executive committee were elected: President, Mr. H. N. Vivian; vice-pre-sidents, Dr. E. Gordon- Anderson, Messrs. W. H. Milner and E. S. Mirams; secretary, Mr. L. J. Morgan; treasurer." Mr. C. J. Mackay; auditor, Mr. C. S. Falconer; members of executive council. Dr. J. M. Laird, Rev. M. W. P. Lascelles, Messrs. C. J. Drake, H. S, Hart, P. C. Perry, and F. Gardiner. ; •After the formal business, a roll,call of foreign missionary societies > was read and brief accounts of the history, spheres of work, methods, and number of missionaries, were given by the representatives of the Bolivian Indian! Mission, British Syrian Mission,,' Ceylon and Indian General Mission, Chatham Islands Gospel Mission, China Inland Mission, Egypt General -Mission, Poona and Indian "Village Mission, Russian Mission, South ' Sea Evangelical Mission, Sudan United Mission, Unevangelised Fields Mission; and the Zenana Bible and Medical Mission.

In connection with the China Inland Mission it was stated that approximately £5,000,000 had been given since its inception and that today it has'l36B missionaries in the field. - -No one re^ ceives any regular-or stipulated allowance. Not once had any, appeal ■ for funds been made, as the mission relies entirely upon prayer. A sum of £400 per day is received for' the work.' One of the speakers on India stated that it was estimated that if, one village in India had been visited each clay since the time' of our • Lord, the total would not have been yet completed. • . \ -' ■. The object of the newly .formed association is to render more effective aid to the various - foreign" mission societies in their work. • •
