MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Police /and summons cases in the Magistrate's Court yesterday were dealt with by Mr: E. D. Mosley, S.M. John Moriarty was fined 10s for defaulting in the payment of an instalment of the unemployment levy.
For being in possession of unlicensed radio sets one defendant was fined 10s and another 15s.
"I do not direct the police to charge you with another offence, but unless you take a pull the police will charge you with a more serious offence," said the Magistrate to Minnie Marjoric Oliver, aged 44, a domestic, in dismissing a charge against her of being an idle and disorderly person with insufficient lawful means of support. Mr. J. B. Yaldwyn appeared for her. Bail in the sum of £50, with sureties totalling the same amount, was granted to George Frederick Edwards, aged 21, a butcher, who was further remanded until next Wednesday on charges of attempting to steal a connecting rod and piston valued at £.1from H. M. Duthie and of stealing a rug valued at £3. Henry Horace Smith, 1 aged 35. a labourer, was further remanded to next Wednesday on a charge of breaking and entering the shop of J. E. G. Furness in Darlington Road and stealing' frofti rt tobacco, cigarettes, and about £1 in money, of a total value of £30. Bail was allowed in the sum of £100 with sureties to the same amount and he is to report daily to the Detective Office. . On a charge of breakingl-and entering the counting house of New Zealand Fisheries, Ltd., and stealing from it tobacco, cigarettes, brandy; beer, an attache case, and about £2'l9s in cash, of a total value' of about- £6 0s 6d, Samuel Jamieson McKee, aged 24, a labourer, and William Alexander Millar, aged 27, a hawker, were also remanded until Wednesday" dn bail of £100 with sureties amounting to £100, on the condition that they leport daily I to-thQ-JDeteotiva-flfflcek - ■ \
