TRADES ASSOCIATION

DOMINION PRESIDENT'S VISIT

I The Dominion president of the Horticultural Trades Association, Mr. H. Bennett, of Dunedin, who has been on a tour of the North Island, addressed horticulturists at Lower Hutt last evening when a meeting of the council of the association was held. The district president (Mr. W. H. Barker), who presided, welcomed Mr. Bennett and Mr. George A. Green, of Auckland. ' Mr. Bennett said that his tour of the North Island was the first visit he had paid to the north as president of the association, and he had been greatly impressed by the wonderful variety of soils and climate. He traced his route through the island and commented on the horticultural activities in the various districts., The seed/ nursery, and florists' trades were on the upgrade once more both in the North and South Islands, and he predicted further improvement .during, the coming season. The progress made was solid and would certainly be lasting. Stocks might not be .as large as in the boom years, but.those held were ample and of good quality.. . Mr. Bennett was accorded, a vote of thanks, and a social-hour wasspent by members. •■ ■• , TESTIMONIAL CUP. At the council meeting Mr. Bennett said it had been decided unanimously that the services of Mr. Thomas Waugh during the last thirty years should be recognised by the provision of a cup to be known as the Thomas Waugh Testimonial Cup, for competition at annual flower shows.conducted during "Horticulture Week." The cup would be awarded for the best exhibit displayed by a member of the association.
