NAVY APPROPRIATIONS

BILL BEFORE U.S. SENATE (Received May 10, 2.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 9. The Senate Appropriations Committee has reported the Navy Appropriation Bill to the Senate after restoring 23,380,000 dollars for beginning the construction of the twenty-four new replacement ships, an allowance which the House of Representatives had cut in half. The Bill carries a total of 459,606,346 dollars which is the largest for the navy for years. A sum of 530,600 dollars has been added for the operation and maintenance of aircraft. The contract for the authorisation of newplans has been increased from 5,000,000 dollars to 8,180,000 dollars.
