MILDER WEATHER

TODAY'S FORECAST

Special forecast for Wellington:— v .Moderate to strong but decreasing south-easterly winds. Weather fair to cloudy. The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole issued at noon today is for strong south-easterly winds at first in and about Cook Strait. Elsewhere winds will be more variable in direction, northerlies prevailing shortly over the South Island. Some scattered light rain is probable in northern and eastern areas of the North Island, but otherwise the weather will be fine. Temperatures will become milder. Dull weather, with misty showers or drizzling rain at times, has been experienced along the east coast south of East Cape, but elsewhere the weather has been mainly fine. Last night the southerly winds freshened somewhat along the east coast and about Cook Strait, but otherwise winds have been light to moderate, and northerlies were prevailing this morning in the far north and south. Although pressure has risen steadily over New Zealand it has remained relatively low to the west of the North Island. Fine weather has continued in Auckland, where a light southerly has prevailed. There was a change last night, however, in wind direction, to the north-east and this morning saw an increase in cloud. Wellington's weather has been cloudy with a cold southerly wind. This freshened last night and occasional showers of rain totalled eight points at Kelburn and nine in Lower Hutt. Christchurch has had dull weather with misty rain at times, totalling four points. A light south-westerly wind has prevailed, the weather this morning still being overcast. Dunedin also has had dull weather, four points of light rain falling there yesterday afternoon. Yesterday's wind was a light southerly, but a light northerly had taken its place by this inorning, and the weather had become fine. ■
