An intense anticyclone extends across the Tasman. Sea on to New Zcalacd, and slnco yesterday pressure has also risen to tho eastward. Southerly winds have consequently predominated and yesterday were strong on parts of the east coast, but by this morning they had become mostly light. Tho weather has been cloudy In eastern districts south of East Capo and in the southern half of the South Island, with scattered showers or misty rain at times, but elsewhere It has been mainly fair to Dne. Temperatures have remained on the cold side.
