MARINE CASUALTIES
The number of accidents and major disasters which occur every day to ships all over the world Is surprising. A typical week, February 7 to February 13, records that there were reported at Lloyd's no fewer than 17 vessels aground on various coasts of the world. Some of these are ships which, had broken from their moorings and blown ashore while in port. Others were reported as total wrecks. In the same week one ship was reported as missing, three were reported to be suffering.from fire, six ships were involved in collisions, five sank completely, one suffered from a severe explosion while at 'sea, one developed a serious leak, and one'unsuccessful attempt was made to refloat a ship which had grounded. There were also reported, however, eight cases of ships being refloated during the week.
