HUTT NEWS
A successful dance was organised on Friday night by the Lower Hutt group of Toe H.
The dance was held in St. James's Hall, an excellent orchestra providing the music. Those on the committee were: Mesdames McFarlane (black georgette), Chapman (black net), Hyder (floral marocain), and 'Phear (black and white rippled organdie); Messrs. I. McFarlane, K. King, and D. McColl.
Among the dancers were:—Misses B. Knox, E. Hyder, W. Vickery, E. Vickery, L. Jackson, L. Adams, A. Yates, B. Barton, K. Kempthorne, T. Jones, M. Hardcastle, B. Welsh, A. Doig, E. Broad; Messrs. J. Kennedy, B. Vickery, J. Nash, P. Foster, A. Pearce, H. Hollis, L. Hunt, S. Kempthorne, J. Cable, R: Purvis, J. Wallis, R. Knight.
The opening night of the Hutt Play Reading Club took place recently at Mrs. P. Marshall's home.
Mrs. Marshall was elected as president for the year, and Mrs. McLean as secretary. Mrs; Marshall welcomed all new members.
The play, entitled "The Roundabout," by J. B. Priestley, was read, those taking part being: Drs. S. Welton-Hogg and McLean, Messrs. Foster, Morison, Holderness, P. McLean, and Mrs. Olphert and Mrs. Marshall, Misses Taylor, Mason, and McDiarmid. Miss Humphries read the stage directions.
