ST. MARK'S CHURCH
' The annual meeting of the parishioners of St. Mark's parish was held in the parish hall on Tuesday. The vicar, the Rev. N. F. E. Robertshawe, presided. There was an attendance of about 80 members.
The vicar gave a brief resume of the work of the parish' during the past year, urging increased support to tho missionary work and stating that a missionary pageant was in preparation and would be presented-early, in June. He commended the work, of the branch o£ the Harbour Lights Guild of the Missions to Seamen, the choir,-the lay readers, and the Sunday school teachers, and mentioned that each child attending the Sunday school would receive a Bible, suitably inscribed, as a souvenir o£ his Majesty's Silver Jubilee. The various parish ' organisations were working well. He' paitj a tribute to the Rev. \ C. Venimore for his able and willing assistance. The Church day school, under the Misses Holm, was specially mentioned, reference being made to the orderly and reverent bearing of the pupils who formed the choir at the Anzae service on the previous Sunday. Activities during the year ended March 31 were reviewed in the annual report. The.year began with a credit balance of £103 19s lOd,' and ended with a credit balance of £31 4s 6d, to which, the report stated, had to hi* added - £28 10s 6d, due to the church ■-.■■■na by the Parish Trust [Board. Taki:, v. .to. account the present financial conditions the position is regarded" as fairly satisfactory, but the report emphasises that there is a steady decrease in the general offertories and that expenses have increased materially. During the year an attempt was made to increase the number of subscribers under the "envelope system." ,The results so far have not been encouraging,', but. parishioners ' are urged to. give this matter theirmost serioue consideratioh* in order that the finances o£ the parish may be kept on a satisfactory footing. •.'.'■ ' •••••■• .. , . Emery, Rawnsley, Hampton; Gaudin, Lamb, White, Williams, Chambers, Siversen, Madeley, and Dr. Kemp; auditors, Messrs. Haworth and Jones; church school committee, Mrs. Mack, Miss Lewis, Messrs.. Barltrop, Eeginton, Gaudin, McKenzie, Madeley, and White; synbdfimen,. Messrs., Barltrop, Kennedy, and ,'Gaudin.
, After the formal business had been concluded, a social gathering was held.
