' Jean Balten, the New Zealand girl who is flying from Australia to London, having left Sydney on April 3 and Darwin on April 12, was delayed by a punctured tire when she was about ,to lake off. Meanwhile bad weather reports are. arriving. Miss Batten declared that she was most disappointed. She said she intended to fly to Lyons, hoping to reach Paris tonight, but magneto troublo then developed, and as a result Miss Batten is not likely to depart before tomorrow. (British official ft'lreleit.) (Received April 27, noon.) • RUGBY, April 26. Miss Jean Batten, the young New Zealand airwoman, who is engaged on the Australia to England flight, has been held up at Marseilles, and in consequence will : not, as was anticipated, break the record for a solo flight by. a woman on this route which was established last year. She flew early this morning from Rome, and made a good landing at Marginan, near Marseilles. When taking off on the final stage of the great flight one of the tires of her aeroplane burst. Repairs having been effected, she was forced to land on her second attempt, certain engine adjustments being necessary. . Reports state that she will remain at Marseilles overnight.
