A SOCIAL EVENING.
A happy social evening was tendered to the'men from the ships Waimana, Hertford, Zealandic, Port < Hunter, and Rangitiki by the Ladies* Auxiliary and • the Seamen's Committee of the Catholic Church. Assistance was given by the Children of Mary and various sodalities, and the entertainment proved a most enjoyable one. Misses Jean Coker,. K.Peters, and M. Oalloway contributed items, and Miss MoKeown (accompanied by Miss Dennehy) gave much pleasure with a bracket of songs. Pat Meehan, Betty Painter, 'and Judy Cooper, also Miss Hazel Martin, were parti*, cularly successful in their ( dances, Mr-. Pat Bull providing the music. Mr. Riddler (secretarj of i the Seamen's Committee) made a brief speech ofwelcome to the men. Tea and supper arrangementswere carried out by Mesdameß Rafter, O'Kane, Mallia, Compton, Lookwood, Frew and Osbaldistone. The. men showed their appreciation by giving heartycheers at the end of the evening.
